2019 CTPF Pie Baking Contest


Categories
  • Youth, (17 years old and under), for all categories listed below.
  • Fruit Pie (i.e., cherry, apple, peach, berry etc.). Pies may have single or double crust. Pies may have crumb topping instead of top crust.
  • Nut Pie. Any pie with peanuts, tree nuts, or nut butter as an ingredient. Refrigerated or unrefrigerated.
  • Cream Pie (i.e., ice-box pies, chess pies, custard pies, cream pies, meringue pies, no-cook pies, etc.). Refrigerated and unrefrigerated.
Entries
  • Entry fee is $10 per entry. Bakers may enter more than one pie per category. Bakers may enter pies in more than one category. An entry form must be completed for each pie entry.
  • Early entry forms are being accepted now through June 7, 2019. Early entry forms should be submitted with the entry fees to Cisco Senior Nutrition Program, 1498 West I-20, Cisco, TX 76437.  Make checks payable to Cisco Strong Inc. Bakers should make copies of their entry forms to present when they bring their pies.
  • Bakers must submit 2 examples of each pie entry. One will be used in the judging and the other will be auctioned off or sold during the Pie Fest. All proceeds from the auction/sale of the pies goes to benefit the Cisco Senior Nutrition Program. Winning pies will be auctioned off at the Pavilion; all other pies will be sold at Slowpoke Farm Market after the judging.
  • Our contest is open to everyone, including professional bakers.
  • Pie entries are to be dropped off on June 14th and 15th. (See schedule below.)

Saturday, June 15, 2019
9:00 - 11:00 a.m. - Drop off pies at Slowpoke Farm Market, 709 Conrad Hilton Blvd, Cisco, TX. Bring entry forms and fees. If you have already mailed forms and fees, just bring in your copies of the entry forms.  
11:30 - 12:30 p.m. Judging at Slowpoke Farm Market.
1:30 p.m. – Winners announced at the Pavilion; prizes and ribbons awarded; photos taken
1:45 p.m. – Auction of winning pies at the Pavilion. All other pies will be sold at Slowpoke Farm Market, from 2:15 - 5:00 p.m., or until all are sold.

Judging Criteria                                                                             Points
  • Overall Appearance                                                              1 to 5
  • Crust color, texture, doneness and flavor                        1 to 5
  • Filling consistency, doneness and flavor                          1 to 5
  • Overall taste                                                                           1 to 5
    In case of a tie, those pies will be re-judged. Decision of the judges is final. Judges will not know the contestants names.
Prizes
Each Category
1st Prize = $100.00 and a ribbon
2nd Prize = $50.00 and a ribbon
3rd Prize =  $25.00 and a ribbon
Grand Prize = $1000 and a Framed Silver Pie Server

Rules:
  1. Each pie must be made from scratch, including the crust.
  2. Pie must be entered in the name of the person who made it. All pies entered become the property of Cisco Strong Inc.
  3. Pie must be submitted in disposable 9” aluminum pie pan with a cover. (Aluminum pie pans with clear plastic coverd can be purchased at the Cisco Brookshire's Grocery.)
  4. Bakers may enter more than one pie in each category and bakers may enter more than one category.
  5. An entry form and $10.00 entry fee must be submitted with each entry.
  6. Baker must submit 2 examples of each pie entry. One will be used in the judging and the other will be auctioned or sold, with the proceeds benefitting the Cisco Senior Nutrition Program.

We would appreciate a copy of your recipe. This recipe, credited with the name of the baker, may be used in a Cisco TX Pie Fest Cookbook published at a later date.
